Strategic Energy Management and Security

China and India plan to work together to secure energy resources without unnecessarily bidding up the price of those resources, thereby agreeing to a consumer's cartel representing 2.3 billion potential consumers. Together, their combined markets and purchasing power offers an extremely attractive partner to energy producing states, especially the ones that face Western pressure over their human rights records or the nature of their political institutions. Energy security has become the essential premise for China to achieve its strategic goal of quadrupling its gross domestic product (GDP) from 2000 to 2020. The Chinese government has worked hard to prevent energy from becoming a bottleneck undermining vibrant growth and social stability. China is committed to cultivating a new economic growth mode featuring low input, low energy consumption, low pollution, and high efficiency. China's short-term goal is to reduce the use of energy per unit of GDP by 20 percent by 2010, and achieve energy conservation and efficiency. India's experience with regulated tariffs has been a mixed story with prices often determined by the higher courts after a long drawn legal process. There are examples from the electricity and the aviation sector that bring out the challenges of tariff regulation.  Ideally, the Government should regulate prices for only those businesses which are natural monopolies and leave the rest for the market forces. This book is highly useful for a general understanding of energy related issues and to understand the present energy-crisis in a holistic way.

Impact of Micro Enterprises on Tribal Women SHGS
It is in this context this study advocates the need to provide access to formal and non-formal training in skills, management of money and enterprise to tribal women and  there is need to explore new avenues for self-enterprise, upgrade their    knowledge, skills and provide them with suitable technical guidance, financial and marketing support and infrastructural facilities. The major inferences drawn from this ultimately reveal that the whole SHG movement in Andhra Pradesh should be reoriented towards training women for starting micro-enterprises by providing prompt and needed requirements. This study also suggests appropriate employment policy measures to promote Non-Farm employment among women households in tribal areas. The study advocates that financing to Micro-Enterprises through SHGs in Andhra Pradesh has positive impact on the non-farm employment activities of tribal women households.

EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT in Industrial Sector

EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT in Industrial Sector
EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT in Industrial Sector
This book explains the different drivers and models that can lead to a highly engaged workforce at all levels. Employee Engagement is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Employees are the company’s driving force, forming the engine of the company   and   engaged   employees   enable  the   company drive more smoothly.
Employee engagement is increasingly becoming more business driven and is all set to be a critical business success factor in all organisations, both in manufacturing and service sectors. Employee Engagement, in a way, is created by the employees themselves, supported by leaders who walk the talk, and by HR who foster their culture with the right tools – from learning to rewards. The essence of engagement is to create a culture where both individuals and teams feel valued and empowered. Most organizations seem to be still struggling to get the basics in place to integrate their communication strategy, drive cultural transformation and introduce an effective social media campaign internally, allowing their employees to take ownership and responsibility for their future.

DISPUTE OVER SOUTH CHINA  SEA THREAT TO ASIAN SOLIDARITY
Tensions between China and both the Philippines and Vietnam have recently cooled, even as China increased its military activity in the South China Sea by conducting a series of naval maneuvers and exercises in March and April 2018. Meanwhile, China continues to construct military and industrial outposts on artificial islands it has built in disputed waters. Asia's strategic polarisation today stands stimulated by China's conflictual and adversarial stances on the South China Sea dispute. Taking off from this Asian polarisation is the emergence of new 'balance of power' architectures in the Asia Pacific. The United States has also stepped up its military activity and naval presence in the region in recent years, including freedom of navigation operations (FONOPs) in January and March 2018. In a speech during his November 2017 visit to Southeast Asia, President Donald J. Trump emphasized the importance of such operations, and of ensuring free and open access to the South China Sea.  The emergence and reemergence of disputes in the South China Sea as a high-profile security challenge offers bookends on an important chapter in China-Southeast Asia relations. All the matter is just compiled and edited in nature. This book will definitely prove to be a boon to teachers, students and research scholars.

CHINA-PAKISTAN STRATEGIC COOPERATION
Pakistan and China has agreed to further strengthen the China-Pakistan All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership, and build closer China-Pakistan Community of Shared Future in the new era. The pursuit of the national interest and the maximisation of vantage points are legitimate goals of a country's foreign policy. Sino-Pakistani relations, a kind of condominium, with different social, cultural, economic and political institutions and different ideological interests, fascinates the attention of many scholars and analysts. The partnership between China and Pakistan falls under the category of an integrative relationship where both parties display understanding and friendship. The Sino-Pakistani relationship, which is often described as 'time-tested' and an 'all-weather friendship,' has seen many twists and turns over recent years. However, the importance of the relationship, both regionally and internationally cannot be understated. The Chinese side reiterated that China's relationship with Pakistan is always a matter of highest priority in its foreign policy. China appreciated the consistent and strong support by Pakistan to China's issues of core interest, and reaffirmed its support and solidarity with Pakistan in safeguarding its sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and security. In addition to providing a wealth of information and analysis on this subject of critical importance, this volume aims at shedding populism and bursting several myths that continue to surround Indian debates on China-Pakistan strategic cooperation.

China's Roads in Indian Ocean

China's Roads in Indian Ocean
China's Roads in Indian Ocean
India's inability to develop interdependencies with neighboring countries, both economically and strategically, has left a void that China has dutifully fulfilled. There still remains a window for India to correct its past mistakes and develop a concerted strategy to regain influence in the region. The lack of an Indian grand strategy in its neighborhood cannot be emphasized enough, and it is alarming that consecutive Indian establishments have been unable to arrest this declining influence, while China's economically hostile developmental assistance accompanied with naval technology transfers intertwine the region in a web of institutional dependency. The options for India are simple – either it acquiesces to a Chinese hierarchy in the region by letting Beijing encroach upon its sphere of influence, or it takes a stand to preserve its strategic space and counters China's containment strategy by expanding its nautical reach. China's most advanced guided missile frigates, the ship will be equipped with anti-ship, anti-submarine and air-defence capabilities. The China Daily report goes on to say that the ship will not just strengthen Pakistan Navy's capabilities but also help in maintaining the “balance of power” in the Indian Ocean region. As China looks to expand its presence and profile in South Asia with the Belt and Road Initiative, a new paper suggests that a clash of strategic interests with India is inevitable. The present book is serve the very purpose meaningfully and give a fresh impetus to the scientific community for further research on geographical aspects on Indian Ocean, which we could not cover in this volume due to its limited scope.

CHINA IN THE INDIAN OCEAN REGION AND BEYOND

CHINA IN THE INDIAN OCEAN REGION AND BEYOND
CHINA IN THE INDIAN OCEAN REGION AND BEYOND
The Indian Ocean is the world's third-largest body of water and has become a growing area of competition between China and India. The two regional powers' moves to exert influence in the ocean include deep-water port development in littoral states and military patrols. Though experts say the probability of military conflict between China and India remains low, escalated activities (such as port development and military exercises) and rhetoric could endanger stability in a critical region for global trade flows. But the diverse nontraditional security challenges in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) also offer areas of potential collaboration for China and India, as well as other regional actors. The Indian Ocean is the third largest ocean of the world, and has gained increasing importance in world affairs since the last three decades of the century gone by. It has a singular geographical construct wherein it is bound by Africa in the West, Asia in the North and East, and Australia towards the South East. It stretches all the way to Antarctica in the South, and is also connected to the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans in its Southern reaches. The Indian Ocean has a number of access points, which makes it unique since control of these access points allows control of the extensive shipping lanes that carry vital cargo across the vast expanse of this ocean. The present book is serve the very purpose meaningfully and give a fresh impetus to the scientific community for further research on geographical aspects on Indian Ocean, which we could not cover in this volume due to its limited scope.

CHALLENGES IN HIGHER EDUCATION

CHALLENGES IN HIGHER EDUCATION
CHALLENGES IN HIGHER EDUCATION
Quality improvement in Higher Education is one of the priority areas to be taken care of by all the stake holders.  The draft National Education Policy-2019 suggests measures to improve quality in higher education restructuring the present system by introducing three types of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Type-1 HEIs are the Research Universities with focus on high quality cutting-edge research and quality teaching. Type-2 HEIs include Teaching universities focusing on high quality teaching across disciplines and programmes.  Tier-3 HEIs are colleges focusing on high quality teaching. All such institutions will gradually move towards full autonomy – academic, administrative and financial. The idea behind it speaks on spreading 'research culture' at the undergraduate level.  The policy also talks about National Research Foundation keeping in view the need for expansion of research and innovation in the country.  Further, the draft report highlights the need for developing vocational and technical education.
This volume speaks on various aspects concerning quality improvement in Higher Education in the context of the recommendations made by the Committee on NET-2019 and highlights the challenges faced by the Higher Education Institutions today and suggests measures to face the challenges boldly and arrive at suitable solutions.

Caste Rigidities and Social Protest in India

Caste Rigidities and Social Protest in India
Caste Rigidities and Social Protest in India
The concept of Caste has not existed in Vedic period but the society is divided into four hierarchical classes such as Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras. At the end of the Atharva Vedic period a new class (fifth class) was emerged in the name of 'untouchable class' presently called as Dalits meaning oppressed or downtrodden. These "Untouchable" menials, relegated to carrying out very menial and polluting work related to bodily decay and dirt. In much of India, Dalits were prohibited from entering temples, using wells from which the "clean" castes drew their water, or even attending schools. In past centuries, dire punishments were prescribed for Dalits who read or even heard sacred texts. Many social movements were organized against these practices in South India at least from the twelfth century under the leadership  of social reformers such as Basavanna, Jyotirao Phule, Narayana Guru, Periyar E.V. Ramaswami Nayakar, Dr.B.R.Ambedkar etc., opposed the caste system and casteist tendencies in the society.

BUSINESS SERVICES OF NON-LIFE INSURANCE PLAYERS | A FOCUS ON CUSTOMERS’ PERCEPTION

BUSINESS SERVICES OF NON-LIFE INSURANCE PLAYERS –A FOCUS ON CUSTOMERS’ PERCEPTION

BUSINESS SERVICES OF NON-LIFE INSURANCE PLAYERS –A FOCUS ON CUSTOMERS’ PERCEPTION

Insurance business has undergone many changes and challenges first, in the context of nationalization since 1973 and later, during post liberalization since 1992. The IRDA which came in to force by the turn of the century, also gave a differential shape and scope for insurance business in India. IRDA paved a way for many private players to start their operations competing with the existing government players. This has resulted in manifold increase in the insurance business in India.

Ballistic Missile Defence Frontier of the 21st Century

Ballistic Missile Defence Frontier of the 21st Century
Ballistic Missile Defence Frontier of the 21st Century

Ballistic missile defense increases public and government confidence, while simultaneously making an adversary aware that a nuclear first strike may not yield the intended results. This awareness enhances the deterrence capability of a no-first-use state like India. While offensive deterrence is essential for strategic stability, a defensive deterrent like BMD multiplies the deterrent effect and protects against irrational or unreasonable states. BMD protection increases stability and gives India the choice of keeping weapons at lower states of readiness—perhaps even demated—sanguine in the belief that India's leadership and nuclear forces will survive to launch a retaliatory second strike. Keeping weapons demated, at a lower state of readiness, is a significant confidence-building measure and contributor to deterrence stability. Missile defenses flowed from the anti-aircraft and missile developments of World War II, were stimulated by the rapid buildups in offensive missiles thereafter, and further accelerated by the rapid proliferation of missiles and WMD after the Cold War. NIKE systems developed radar and interceptor technology to levels adequate for the defense of population against light attacks. To eliminate the vulnerabilities of mechanically steered radars, NIKE also developed the technology for phased array radars, which remain key components of current systems.  This book contains the fundamental and basic information of the subject and useful for teachers, students and researchers.
